What makes a video go viral?
To tackle this question, my team conducted regular ethnography research and user interviews. This research informed the development of new features as well as the refinement of existing features.
Desktop App Evolution
Epoxy’s desktop application underwent 3 major design iterations in 3 years. Starting as an analytics tools for tracking social video across YouTube, Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook, the desktop application evolved into a comprehensive suite of tools for video creators - including fan engagement, asset creation, media library, and multi-channel publishing tools.
Reply to Fan Comments
Responding to fan comments is one of the most effective ways for a Creator to build a strong community. But responding to every comment can be extremely time consuming. The Fan Comments tool used a proprietary algorithm and filters to help Creators prioritize which comments to reply to first.

On-the-go Engagement Tools
Our user research helped us understand that helping Creators stay in constant contact with their audience across all channels was once of the best ways we could help them grow their community. So in 2015, Epoxy released mobile applications for iOS and Android that centralized and streamlined fan engagement. The first iteration of the app featured an activity feed that highlighted comments from the Creator's most infuential fans. The app also included real-time social performance metrics, social growth analytics, and audience lists for YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Our second release included publishing tools like Video Replies - enabling Creators to easily reply to fan comments with a video response.
Connecting with video creators and building community was an essential part of Epoxy’s growth strategy. Our approach was to become the "ultimate fans" of our Creators - celebrating milestones, promoting them in our feature releases, connecting them with like-minded Creators, and educating them about our product. From social media campaigns, to product onboarding, to retention and engagement emails, to in-person creator meetups and events, all touchpoints were designed to ensure a consistent voice, build trust, and foster creative collaboration.
